Get Waisted hosts a Fashion Show for Brighton College

Toni Pickles firmly believes in supporting local charities as well as education, so it’s no surprise that for the third year running, Get Waisted helped the girls of Fenwick House, one of the houses at leading independent school, Brighton College, put on a fashion show (www.brightoncollege.org.uk).

Last year the theme was ‘James Bond’, the year before ‘Moulin Rouge’ – so there’s never a shortage of glamour. This year the theme was 1940’s and ‘50’s ‘Hollywood Glamour’ so of course it was just the ticket for Get Waisted.

After music and dance from some extremely talented students, brave members of staff strutted their stuff in front of the student body wearing pieces from a number of local shops including Passport, Lucia’s Workshop and Foxed Up Vintage, for the ‘Teachers Runway’.

This was followed by collections from Get Waisted, Dig for Victory and Pretty Eccentric, varying from fun outfits through to vintage-inspired day and cocktail dresses, and evening glamour.

With financial contributions from a raffle as well ticket sales for the event, catering and a fun photo booth with accessories for a record of the event from Emmest Photography (www.emmestphotography.co.uk/), the final amount raised for Chestnut Tree House is still being calculated - but with around 200 people there on the night (a full house), the evening was a great success and much enjoyed by everyone.

Age of Elegance

Taking Adele's stunning old style Hollywood glamour look from last weeks Grammy's as your lead, why not let the 1940’s and 50’s inspire you this season. All feminine curves, cinched waists, voluptuous peplums, dramatic decolletage and high-heel arches. These features aren’t just the holy grail of fashion, they're also one of the key effects in feminine beauty. Curvy means sexy, womanly, grown up, and seductive.

Just to illustrate the point, we've gathered a selection of our favourite old time sirens in our very own hall of feminine fame. Take it away Sophia Loren, Marylin Monroe, Jane Russell & Rita Hayward......

Naturally, a fashion label like Get Waisted should turn to its heritage of curvaceous clothes for inspiration. It's all about the curves and if it’s not there naturally, a consultation with Toni to create one of our bespoke corsets or beautifully cut dresses, will create this look just for you.

Signing off for this week and bringing our inspiration right up to date we've selected a few of our favourite contemporary curvys too; Scarlett Johansson, Beyonce, Sophie Dahl, Jennifer Hudson and J-Lo.

Next up, London Fashion Week......

Someone Like Adele

How much do we love Adele?!!

Watching her clean up with a whopping 6 Grammy awards last weekend was only to be topped by her fabulous new look. A sophisticated lady indeed, reminiscent of old Hollywood, she was all womanly curves, soft blond bouffant and scarlet red lips. Her custom made Armani dress beautifully set off this siren look, featuring three quarter length sleeves, black mesh covered sequins and a cinched waist.

Winning every award she was nominated for, she received a 30 second standing ovation from the star studded audience for her moving performance of ‘Rolling in the Deep’. In keeping with her red carpet entrance she took to the stage in yet another gorgeous mesh and sequin black dress, this time complemented with smokey eyes and nude lips.

You can totally see the joy on her face as she poses with all her awards at the end of the night, sporting her third and final outfit, a soft, black, velvet, Burberry number.

So, we’ve just enough time to catch our breath, sit back and wait to see how many awards she’s  going to bag at the Brits on Tuesday……..Can’t wait!!
